Before the 20th Century, mental illness was not seen as a treatable medical condition, as it is today, but as a permanent problem (or worse, possession by the devil). What do you think of Ophelia's "treatment"?

I think that Ophelia´s treatent is being very bad, nobody talks to her and everyone is seeing her as a posessioned woman. But we also have to think that before the 20th century medicine wasn´t so advanced as it is today and no one knew how to treat someone mad. But independently of this, Ophelia is being treated very bad, causing her to sink even more in her madness.

In my opinion Ophelia's treatment is terrible because she is locked in a room with a "crazy person" shirt and no one wants to help her or speak with her. Everyon wants to avoid her so therefore they separate her from all the people in the castle.

  3. Ophelia treatment is really bad it actually harms her more. This "treatmen" that she is reciving is ignoration, humiliation, and treatments that eventually do not help the patient at all. This risks of posssions or isanity could provoke the thought that they were even possesed wich all that is lined with demons they killed them. The pscicology of this mater is beyond of there understanding in those times.

I think Ophelia is not seen as a human anymore. She is seen like an infected animal. It is clearly seen how much they want to be away from her when they give her, "a bath". They use the hose and then they send her back to the room with all the matresses on the walls. Today, there are people locked up like that, but they are not mentally ill. Those who are kept today in such conditions are inmenseley intelligent serial killers. Those are the ones we keep marginated from society, not people who have been traumatized with a death.

  5. Ofelia received a terrible treatment.what they got with taking her far from everyone and with the show of disgust for her, made her more mad and depress. I think that this treatment was really stupid and that i just affected Ofelias state. They treated her as a bug and an unhuman being.

  6. I think Ophelia´s treatment was very bad. nobody speak to her, they treat her ofull. she was getting more crazy in that room alone than if she could be with someone talking or something. i agree they were so mean with her, they see her different like if she was another kind

  7. I think that it could hardly be called teatment. The only thing that is done is isolation, and that is for te "sane" peoples benefit not ophelias.

  8. I think that the way that people are treating Ophilia just makes things much worse for her. I think they treat her as if she were from another planet and they speak to her as if she did not understand anythig.

  9. Ophelias treatment because of her mental ill is so, so, so pathetic in an unimaginable way. i can't believe how someone can be treated that bad just because she is in hard days due to the dead of his father. Still in my opinion she is such a bad actress when she plays the insane child it impresed me the pathethic she looked and the pathethic she got treated

  10. In my opinion, Ophelia's treatment is completely wrong. Just because her mental state isn't sane, her family members act as if she were a deadly virus or a disease, that could infect them. Because of this, they prefer to avoid her by isolating her in a separate room and tying her up in a stray jacket. Instead of trying to find out what is going on with her or trying to comprehend the reason for her insanity, they prefer to avoid her.

  11. As well as all my fellow friends, I agree with them. The treatment that ophelia is getting is horrible, and unfair. She might be a little crazy but they are treating her as if she was with a really bad mental disease. It is to get mad and upset to see this happening. They have her in a 2x2 room and attached without any movement with her hands. this is UNACCEPTABLE

I believe that they are not treating Ophelia in the right way. They are just giving her a harder time than the one she has been having aready. They are treting her in the opposite wat that they shoulkd be treating her. Because of how they treated her maybe she didn't accidentally die but she committed suicide. I agree with Mr. gerber in the fact that we are very lucky to loive in a time when doctors know how to treat insane people.

  13. I think that they are treating Ophelia in the only way that they know how to, but it is completely unwarranted and also it doesn't make sense (at least to me) that they would treat someone with obvious mental instability the way that they are treating her. I think that the real problem is not with the way that the people in Denmark specifically are the ones to blame, but everyone in that time. For example, the scene of them spraying water at her without any reason. It just shows how they really didn't think much about what they were doing instead they just assumed it was some sort of bad thing that could be contagious. I think they are treating her the wrong way and examples like this one make me very happy to be alive in the day and age that I am now.
