Mr. Sullivan, my 12th grade English teacher, made us dress up in Burger King crowns and sword fight with paper towel tubes to make sense of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Here at the American School in Guadalajara we are going to use the internet instead. In the posts below, follow us as we seek to understand why this really is the greatest play in the English language.

ReplyDeleteAccording to Hamlet, Gertrude is the cause of the destruction of the family and of all of his problems. According to me she is responsible for the suffering of his own son. Thanks to her Hamlet is becoming crazy and miserable. It it wasn't for Gertrude the story as it is wouldn't exist.
Hamlet believes his mother is one of the main reasons of what's happening. He believes her decision to get married so soon has meant betrayal and deceit to her family and her son. He can't understand how its possible that his own mother has betrayed his father and how she didn't even care about Hamlet Sr. being dead.
ReplyDeleteI believe she is the cause of the entire problem. She knew her husband had died under unusual circumstances (he was lying on the ground with a face of terror on him), she didn't even try to find out who did it, she agreed to marry his husband's brother, she simply believed Claudio's word that Hamlet was mad, and she doesn't plan to interfere with Hamlet being sent to England.
I think its all her fault.

I think Gertrude is one of te most responsibles for what i gong on, since she married Claudius even when her husband´s was killed shirt time ago. She also never talked with Hamlet about any situation or to know what´s going on. She, as a mother, has the responsability to talk to her son to see if she can help him in something.

ReplyDeleteSorry, I did the same mistake, I forgot to put m name to the comment above.
Through Hamlets eyes Gertrude is to blame for all that is happening. He accuses her of tearing the whole family apart by remarrying with his uncle or the previous husabands brother. He also accuses her of treason and dishonor for forgetting so easily about her previous husaband who had always been an honorable and loyal man.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, Hamlet has the complete right to feel this way since her true husband had only died two months ago and she had already remarried. Not only did she remarry but she did it with his uncle. She is fully Hamlets madness and the destruction of the family since she had the choice to object the marriage and didn't.

Gertrude responsability is over all the events that have occured in this tragedy. She is responsible for harming Hamlets heart and forgaving his father(also part of his insanity). I mean she got married in 2 months that is really fast for somone you suposbly "loved". She is also guilty for power to Claudious to become king, or a reason to become the future king of Denmark.

i think that Hamlet blames Gertrude for almost everything except for his fathers death, she is responsable of marriyng Hamlet's uncle and being unfaithful to her husband. What i think is that Gertrude is certainly responsable for Hamlets "madness" and that is what caused all the problems, so she is to blame.

yes i agree with all those comments. i think gertrude is the responsable for all what Hamlet is suffering. she caused damage to his own son. she is the reason of why Hamlet is acting that way.

I think that Hamlet does blame his mother for a lot of his pain but not completely, i think he resents her for not being on his side.

iI think that gertrude does have somewhat to do in the problem even though Claudius killed Hamlet senior and if he hadnt killed him nonthing would of happened, Gertrude added to that and made the problem much more severe. I think that gertrude is a really bad mom.

Gertrudes position in the play is a erally crucial and important for hamlet. Gertrude by marrying his uncle she broke hamlets heart and it was the one thing that made him so disapointed in a way that he started hating her. She has a really crucial part in the play and without her it wouldn't be the same

Gertrude is about 90% guilty and responsable of this event and shes the cause of Hamlets change towards the movie. Because of Gertrude´s wedding with Hamlets uncle, and other certain bad decisions, Hamlets has becaome insane and wants revenge with both Gertrude and Claudius. This gives a touch to the play which im liking
