To what extent do parents have the right to “spy” or check up on their children? What circumstance might allow or prevent this? Do Claudius and Gertrude have the right to spy on Hamlet?

  1. I think that parents have the right to check their children up to be sure that everything is going ok, but only in some circumstances. Drugs and other dangerous things can allow parents to check uptheir sons to help them solve the problem. Cladius and Gertrude have the right to check up Hamlet because he´s "crazy", to help him get out of this.

  2. I believe that parents should have the right to "spy" or check up on their children to a very low extent. By this i mean that it would only be apropriate if the parents can see that their son or daughter are up to no good and have proof of this. For example if they see that their son arrives drunk often or that he looks under the infuence of drugs then yes, they should. But, if they have no proof then there is no reason why they should violate their privacy. This is why i think that Claudius and Gertrud do have a motive for cheking up, but not spying, on Hamlet. Since Hamlet is demonstrating a complete change in his way of acting then ,they should try to see what is going on.

  3. i think that parents have no right to spy on their children. thats not the only solution that exist. i believe that by talking with them the problem can be solve. they have to trust each other if not this wont work. but definitly spying is not the answer for this. so i think that hamlet´s parents should talk with him first to see whats happening with their son.if that dont works probably yes, thay have to know what is happening with him but they shouldnt sent someone to spy on him.since they are his parents, and parents worry about their sons they should go themselfs to check on him. no spying....

  4. I think that parents have the right to check up or even spy on their child when it is obvious that they are either in trouble, or just doing something bad. For example if the child comes home reeking of pot, then they should be able to check up on what he's doing to make sure that he's not making bad decisions, i don't think that paranoid parents have the right to just spy on their children because they don't trust anyone and are afraid that their son or daughter might do something bad even if they never would. In this case, I think that Hamlet's mom and uncle do have the right to spy on him because he is clearly acting almost insane and I don't think its because they want to get him in trouble, more than just try to figure out whats wrong and help him.

I think parents have the right to spy or check on their children just to a certain extent. It could only be acceptable if the parents see that their children are in serious trouble. For example: if they are on drugs, if they drink to much alcohol, if they are members of a gang, if they suddenly changed dramatically or anything that fits in that category. Claudius and Gertrude have the right to spy on Hamlet because he changed dramatically into a lunatic and therefore both parents are very concerned and want to know what's wrong with their son.

  6. I believe the in rightthateveryone should have theirown privacy but if my sun is changing dramatically I believe I have the right as well to spy. Some parents should have the right to spy on theirchildre en because maybe itis the inly way to find out whatthe child really haves. Some perents must do whatever it takes to save their sons.

  7. I dont think parents have the right to spy on their children. If they are hiding something from their parents, it probably wont be something to be proud of. I think each person makes their own choices and in the end, only they can decide whether what they do is right for them or ot. Invading someone's life like that is rude and frustrating. Gertrude and Claudius should not be meddling with Hamlet's situation. But then again, in this situation Hamlet is acting this way for the purpose of getting this response from his mother and stepfather. Regardless of the situation, i dont think parents or anyone for that matter, shold give help if it has not been asked of them.
